Upgrade works at Lutterworth Sports Centre and Harborough Leisure Centre set to gather pace

The project to transform Lutterworth Sports Centre is under way, with works set to begin at Harborough Leisure Centre next week.

The sites, run by leading operator Everyone Active in partnership with Harborough District Council, are poised to benefit from a raft of improvements funded jointly by the partnership at a cost of £5.9million.

At Lutterworth Sports Centre, work started on the extension and refurbishment of the gym – which will include state-of-the-art Life Fitness equipment – on Friday, May 3, with group cycling classes set to move into the dance studio at the end of this month.

The new gym, featuring 100 stations and a fresh look and feel, as well as the improved group cycling studio, are due for completion in August.

Other upgrades will take place to the group exercise studio, pool and reception area, while the wellbeing hub will be relocated to the other side of the centre. A new soft play for under-fives will be housed in the current reception area, alongside a café.

A 14-week project to create the new gym at Harborough Leisure Centre will begin on Monday, May 20, which will see the gym extended to 115 stations.

It will be filled with top-of-the-range Life Fitness equipment as well as Hammer Strength weights kit, Wattbikes and Theraguns to aid recovery.

The main group exercise studio will also close on this date so it can be given a new look and feel, with a temporary gym and group exercise facility opening in the bowls hall on Wednesday, May 22.

Works will begin on the pool from Monday, June 10 which include the introduction of sensory lighting and pool imagery, with the area set to reopen in August with a spectacular new Atlantis pool inflatable.

Other areas due to be refurbished at Harborough Leisure Centre this year include the wellness studio, group cycling studio, outdoor courts, café, changing village and reception.

In addition, the site will benefit from a fantastic new Air X soft play, a giant 16m x 24m inflatable which includes games, music and LED lighting and will be utilised in the sports hall initially.

Cllr Jim Knight, Harborough District Council’s lead for Wellbeing, said: “It’s wonderful to see the upgrades taking place at Lutterworth, with Harborough soon to follow.

“This important investment is delivering exciting new opportunities for us all to become more active and enjoy the associated benefits of improved mental and physical wellbeing, with further community outreach projects in the pipeline.”

Matthew Hopkin, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “It is incredibly exciting news for the local community that these two refurbishments are going ahead.

“We cannot wait to showcase these facilities to the public when completed and are confident that both centres are going to look fantastic and will provide brilliant exercise hubs.

“The new and enhanced facilities will enable people to get active no matter what their age, interests or ability, for many years to come.”
