Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre triumphs at 2024 ukactive Awards

Colleagues are celebrating after Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre secured a prestigious national honour at the ukactive Awards on Thursday, 3rd October.

The centre, run by leading operator Everyone Active in partnership with Sunderland City Council, was named ‘National Club/Centre of the Year’ at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, having earlier triumphed in the ‘Regional Club/Centre of the Year – North’ category.

Everyone Active also won ‘Outstanding Organisation of the Year’ award for its work across the country, including at the other sites within its Sunderland contract – Silksworth Sports Complex and Ski Slope, Sunderland Aquatic Centre, Raich Carter Sports Centre, Houghton Sports and Wellness Centre, Hetton Community Pool and Wellness Centre and Washington Leisure Centre.

Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre’s state-of-the-art facilities include a 120-station gym, a 25m swimming pool which hosts award-winning swim lessons, 18 tennis courts, group exercise studios, a health suite, soft play and café.

The ukactive Awards celebrate the best of the physical activity sector and are designed to recognise excellence and innovation across health, wellbeing and fitness. A not-for-profit body, ukactive comprises members and partners from across the active lifestyle sector.

Ian Bradgate, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “It’s a huge honour to win ‘National Club/Centre of the Year’ at the ukactive Awards and this reflects the hard work and dedication the site team has put in over the past year. Led by the general manager, Sara Blakey, they have done a fantastic job. Councillor Beth Jones, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Tourism at Sunderland City Council, said: “It’s brilliant to see Silksworth winning this prestigious national award. The centre plays a key role in supporting both the physical and mental health of our residents and is a real asset to the community. Well done to everyone who has worked so hard to make the centre the success story that it is. They should be rightly proud.”
