Everyone Active has teamed up with NHS England in a vital initiative to encourage earlier cancer diagnosis. As one of the UK’s leading leisure centre operators, managing over 230 facilities across the country, Everyone Active is introducing awareness messaging in its centres to help members recognise potential cancer symptoms and seek medical advice promptly.
As part of the partnership, changing rooms and toilet facilities at Everyone Active centres will feature new mirror stickers and posters displaying key signs and symptoms of cancer. These messages aim to raise awareness of bodily changes that could indicate cancer, encouraging people to be proactive about their health. The reminders also reinforce the importance of visiting a GP if something doesn’t feel right – because while it’s often nothing serious, early detection can make cancer more treatable and save lives.
Dame Cally Palmer, National Director for Cancer at NHS England, welcomed the collaboration, saying:
“With over 230 leisure centres across the country, it’s fantastic that Everyone Active is partnering with the NHS to help improve body awareness and detect cancer earlier. This partnership builds on our work with supermarkets and health facilities to introduce important body awareness reminders in changing rooms, bathrooms, and on clothing labels.”
She emphasised the importance of knowing what is normal for your body and speaking to a GP if you notice any unusual changes, as early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes.
Jacqui Tillman, Aquatics and Wellbeing Director & Chief Executive of SLM Community Leisure Charitable Trust, expressed Everyone Active’s commitment to the initiative, stating:
“We are proud to support NHS England in raising awareness of the early signs and symptoms of cancer. As our leisure centres sit at the heart of local communities, we wanted to share these important health reminders with both our customers and colleagues.”
She also highlighted Everyone Active’s ongoing work with its charity partner, Breast Cancer Now, to raise funds and support those affected by breast cancer.
Everyone Active joins a growing coalition of organisations backing NHS England’s body awareness campaign, alongside ASDA, Morrisons, P-Wave, and Tesco. Through this initiative, Everyone Active hopes to make a real difference by encouraging people to be more aware of their bodies and to seek medical advice when necessary – helping to improve early cancer detection and ultimately save lives.
