A digital health programme is set to launch in Rainham, offering an innovative solution to the growing challenge of mobility-related health conditions in the community.
The technology-led initiative, known as Good Boost, will transform Rainham Leisure Centre’s main pool into a therapeutic space where residents can access personalised exercise programmes through waterproof tablets, launching on February 25th, 2025.
Following successful implementations at other Everyone Active leisure centres where participants have reported significant improvements in mobility and independence, the operator is now bringing this innovative programme to Havering.
The initiative represents a significant shift in how musculoskeletal conditions – which affect an estimated 18.8 million people in the UK – can be managed locally. The programme uses artificial intelligence to adapt exercises in real-time, ensuring each participant receives personalised support for conditions such as arthritis, chronic pain and mobility issues.
Karen Heilbrunn, Contract Activity & Wellbeing Manager at Everyone Active, which manages Rainham Leisure Centre in partnership with London Borough of Havering, said: “We’re seeing a rising number of residents struggling with mobility challenges and musculoskeletal pain, often leading to isolation and reduced independence.
“This technology-driven approach offers a new solution for our community, particularly important given the increasing pressure on local health services.”
The programme, developed by experts, creates individualised exercise plans that adapt to each person’s progress.
Karen added: “Managing a musculoskeletal condition can feel overwhelming, but this innovative approach allows us to support people of all ages and abilities in their health journey.”
Councillor Gillian Ford, Deputy Leader of Havering Council and Cabinet Member for Adults and Wellbeing, said:
“The introduction of Good Boost to Rainham Lesiure Centre Everyone will be a welcome addition for residents who want to stay active but are experiencing physical challenges.
“By making activities as accessible as possible it will ensure participants get the full benefits of exercise, which we know make such a positive contribution to our physical and mental health.”
Sessions will run twice weekly in the centre’s main pool, with qualified instructors overseeing the technology-guided exercises. The programme will be available from February 25th, operating every Tuesday and Friday from 2:30-3:30pm.
Looking ahead, Everyone Active plans to expand the programme by introducing land-based sessions in the coming months, providing more options for residents to access this innovative technology.
Participants can access sessions for £4.50 on a pay as you go basis, as well as through the centre’s exercise referral scheme.
