Becky Adlington OBE cut the ribbon to declare the brand-new Rainham Leisure Centre officially open at a special ceremony on Friday 28th July.
The Leader of Havering Council, Councillor Ray Morgon, Mayor of Havering, Cllr Stephanie Nunn, Cllr Paul Middleton, Cabinet Member for Corporate, Culture & Leisure Services, Cllr Jacqueline McArdle, Ward Member Rainham & Wennington, joined Becky Adlington OBE and Everyone Active colleagues, as the centre announced the opening of its ‘wet side facilities’.
Managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Havering Council, the centre celebrated completion of the centre by hosting a second family fun weekend, offering free swimming for everyone.
ReCreation, founded and owned by Olympians Becky Adlington OBE and Steve Parry MBE, developed the new leisure centre on behalf of Havering Council and Everyone Active.
“All of us at ReCreation are so proud to have developed this new, state-of-the-art hub for mental and physical wellbeing for all the local residents of Havering. The local authority has really delivered for residents locally and we plan to continue to do the same with new facilities all across the country.”
Local school, Rainham Village Primary School, were the first to experience the new swimming pool, as its students enjoyed the ‘first swim’. The winner of a creative mural competition with the school was also announced, with one lucky student unveiling their winning mural on the poolside wall, alongside Becky Adlington.
Following the recent opening of the ‘dry side facilities’ ahead of schedule, the ‘wet side facilities’ are now open to the public, boasting an impressive 25m, six-lane swimming pool, offering fitness and casual swimming sessions, alongside swimming lessons.
“We’re delighted to see Becky Adlington visit the centre for the official opening ceremony. ReCreation’s involvement in the project has been pivotal and we’re honoured to have Becky on board to showcase the huge benefits the new swimming pool will have for the local community.”
“The opening of the swimming pool is the final step in the completion of Rainham Leisure Centre.
“We have already seen tremendous uptake and positive feedback from visitors over the past few weeks, it’s been great to see so many enjoying the fantastic new facilities on offer.
“Thanks to Everyone Active and ReCreation for their dedication to the Rainham Leisure Centre project and the efforts of the contractors involved in delivering such a wonderful asset, not only for the community in Rainham, but for the whole borough.”
