Using the Gym

The gym is one of the most popular facilities at our centres. They’re fantastic for helping you achieve your fitness goals as they can provide you with a wide range of different work outs, depending on what it is you want to do. Whether you want to lose weight, work on your cardio fitness, build muscle mass, get more flexible, tone what you’ve already got or do a combination of all of these, you’ll find all the state-of-the-art equipment you’ll need in our gyms. They’re also easy and flexible; all you need is some trainers; appropriate clothing and you can just go for it at your convenience (as long as the gym is open).

The Latest Gym Equipment

Everyone Active gyms are refurbished frequently to ensure their equipment is always state-of-the-art and that they’re always looking fresh. We’re always on the lookout for new kit to add to our gyms to help us keep up with new fitness trends and to provide you with the best possible gym experience.

Free Weights in the Gym

The vast majority of our gyms boast dedicated free weights areas. These are ideal for strength training, building muscle mass, as well as cardio, flexibility and range of movement. These areas usually include equipment such as dumbbells, squat racks, barbells and so much more.

Cardio Equipment

The cardio machines in the gym are some of the most popular pieces of equipment you’ll find there. Kit such as the treadmills, cycling machines, rowers, recumbent bikes, ski-ergs and so much more are all popular in the cardio section of the gym. These pieces of equipment are great for any number of fitness goals you may have, including helping you to lose weight and improving stamina.

Functional Fitness in the Gym

Most of our gyms also feature functional areas, where you can enjoy a fantastic functional workout. This will help you with everyday movements, such as bending, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling and squatting. It’s great for helping to build strength and range of movement at the same time

Resistance Equipment

Finally, the gym in in your local Everyone Active centre will also feature resistance machines. These are ideal for helping to build strength, stave of osteoporosis and improve overall fitness. The machines you’ll use in this area of the gym includes the bicep curl, lat pull down, shoulder press, seated chest press and so many more.

Gym Personal Training sessions

Depending on your centre, we also offer Personal Training sessions, which can be booked in 30 or 60 minute slots. To ensure you get the most out of your gym visits, your personal trainer will devise a bespoke training regime for you and will work with you to help keep you motivated and on target to achieve your fitness goals. Book a personal training session now.

If you’d like a similar experience, but with a more social aspect, you could also try our small group training sessions, which are one-hour sessions for up to 12 people with similar fitness goals held over a six-week period. Click here to find out more.

We also offer a variety of 30 min gym floor classes that take place in the gym and are free for members to enjoy. They’re led by a member of the fitness team add variety and motivation to your normal workout and are a great introduction to our small group training programmes.

Gym Introduction Sessions

Gym Introduction Sessions are great for helping improve your confidence with a particular piece or group of equipment. These include cardio, resistance, free weights and functional. Completely free, a member of our knowledgeable team will take you and a small group of others through how to use the equipment and how to get the most out your workout. These sessions are 45-minutes long and are bookable via your app or on the website.

Dedicated Gym Staff

As well as the very latest equipment, our staff are also on hand to make sure you get the most out of your gym session. From our Fitness Motivators who will help you through your first session and make sure you know how to use each piece of equipment to our Personal Trainers who can take you through your whole fitness journey, keeping you motivated and helping to make sure you reach your fitness goals.

Gym Inductions

Before you use the gym, you’ll need to complete the online induction that you can find in your profile, regardless of whether you’re entirely new to using a gym or an experienced gym-goer. This couldn’t be simpler and it’s part of the process you go through to set up your Everyone Active online profile. Simply watch the online induction videos, confirm that you’re happy you know how to use the equipment safely and you’re free to use the gym immediately.

Juniors aged 11-15 must complete an induction in the gym with a qualified fitness instructor, however.

Junior Gym

Juniors aged 11-15 are welcome to use the gym in our centres, but due to the fact that children’s bodies are still developing, we do put some restrictions on what equipment our younger gym users can use.

These restrictions are minimal and mostly surround the free weights, cable machines and bench press racks, but some do ease as you get older. The majority of the equipment in the gym is available for use by everyone and is designed for everybody to enjoy and benefit from. This includes almost all of the cardio machines, some resistance equipment, certain weighted items such as core bags and medicine balls, dumbbells up to a maximum of 5kg and core training equipment such as BOSU balls.

Once you reach the age of 12, your options widen a little bit. As well as all those mentioned above, you can also start to use the Watt Bike (as long as you are 4 ft 11 inches tall or above), as well as pin-loaded weights. These pieces of equipment require a high level of technique to compete correctly.

Upon reaching 14, your options expand still further. As well as all those you’ll find above, you can also use the lat pull down machine, any cabled machines, as well as plyometric boxes and steps. Be sure only to jump onto these, however, and not off them. If you’re unsure, however, it’s important you always speak to an instructor for guidance on progression when exercising – and that counts for all age groups.

Although that is a fairly comprehensive list of equipment that anyone aged 11-15 can use, there are a few bits of kit that we do ask you not to use until you are 16 or over. This measure is only for your own safety as these pieces of equipment can often feature extremely heavy weights that may well injure you either when loading them onto the rack, or in the process of doing the workout itself.

Personal Goal Setting

The Personal Goal Setting survey is an online survey that you complete during your induction. It will help you understand all that we offer, allow you to set your goals and identify a training plan and selection of workouts that will help you reach your targets.
