Working in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), Everyone Active delivers the LTA Youth Programme. This Programme consists of six stages and takes your children from learning the foundation skills of tennis all the way up to more advanced techniques and playing on a full-sized court.
Here you’ll find details of the different stages and age groups that will best suit your child. Although we’ve assigned ages to each stage, these are just a guide. We’ll always put kids in the relevant group based on their ability.
Tots Tennis
(Age 4-6)
This session teaches children how to enjoy the game through a series of fun activities. We aim to improve their balance, co-ordination, agility, movement, as well as their racket and ball skills. Parent/carer should remain present outside the tennis court.
Red Stage
(Age 6-8)
Players will learn to serve, rally and score with a slower red ball. Meanwhile, they’ll also learn the movement and co-ordination skills needed for tennis.
Orange Stage
(Age 8-9)
Players develop a rounded game learning a range of techniques and tactics. Courts are bigger and wider than the red stage but still smaller than full-size tennis courts. There are team and individual competitions, with matches using tie-break scoring.
Green Stage
(Age 9-10)
This is for children who are ready to test their skills on a full-sized court. These sessions use green balls, which are slightly lower-pressured than professional balls. We aim to help children into the sport making it easier for them to develop their skills.
Yellow Stage
(Age 10+)
The time has come to test your skills further. At the Yellow stage, children are now playing on full-sized courts with professional balls. Children will continue to explore different game styles and start to find their own. They will evolve through well-rounded motor skills development, all the while improving their physical capacity.
