Rowing is one of the best cardio sports you can do as it works both your upper and your lower body, but does not cause any of the jarring or impact associated with other activities. As well as toning muscle, rowing regularly can help to build your core strength as you work to stay upright in the boat.
Competitive rowing ranges from the ‘sliding seat’ boats used in the Olympics and the university Boat Race, to the ocean-going vessels crossing the Atlantic.
Most of our gyms have indoor rowing machines, which will give you a feel for the sport and help you decide if it suits you, as well as helping you to keep fit. If you live near to a body of water, there may be a rowing club in your local area. To find out more about the sport, or to locate your nearest club, visit www.britishrowing.org.
