We will now be operating an ongoing 6 weekly coaching scheme of work. …Each week will have a theme that will be then used to plan the warm up, technical coaching and challenge + competition aspect of the lesson. The themes are as follows:
Cross Court Battles
Learn how to control the cross court battles by improving your stance, footwork patterns, ball perception and topspin to dominate the rally and open up the chance to attack into the open space you created.
Changing The Direction
Learn when and how to change the direction of the ball from both the forehand and backhand side. Stance, timing, ball perception and racket pathway are all the key points that will be shown during this.
Attack, Rally & Defend
Understand when to attack, rally and defend and then learn how to do all 3 effectively. This will also include learning the technique for slice and will hugely improve players’ decision making when playing competitively.
Net Play & Hand Skills
Learn when and how to approach the net effectively and then what to do once we get the chance to volley. Lots of games revolving around hand skills will be effectively used to achieve confidence in playing a whole variety of shots in and around the net.
Serve & Return
We can now look to improve consistency in our serves whilst also learning about the slice and topspin serves. You will be shown the correct grips and start to have a routine for both serving and returning as well as choosing the footwork pattern that works for you during our returning routine.
Competition & Games
This is where we can put everything learned in the previous 5 weeks into action as well as learn about on court tournament etiquettes and both doubles and singles match tactics.
