Please be aware that, thanks to significant recent investment and ongoing refurbishment work, Seymour Leisure Centre is now closed for redevelopment.
We’re sure you’ll have some questions about what this means. We’ve tried to answer a few of these HERE. More information about the project can also be found on the Westminster City Council website HERE.
Since closing, works have been proceeding as planned, with daily activity on the site.
Firstly, due to the nature of the project and the condition of the building, works have started with carrying out a number of surveys prior to construction commencing. Given that some of these surveys such as intrusive asbestos surveys and intrusive structural surveys require full access to the entire site, the Council had to close the Centre in February to give adequate time and access to complete the work. In other words, these surveys could not have taken place whilst the building remained open.
The Council is currently finalising the construction contract with the aim of the main construction work starting on site in July. The results of the surveys have determined the extent of the required enabling/preparation works. The scope has now been finalised and the Council is aiming to start this element prior to July. Residents may notice some internal and external construction activity next month in order to ensure that the site is ready to start the main construction activity in July.
